Wowzie! I am honored to have been chosen as the poster Artist for this year...I don't think a jewelry Artist has ever been chosen...a BIG THANK YOU to Peoria Art Guild. I am also freaked and a wee bit intimidated that yard signs, postcards and 15 BILLBOARDS have my piece titled, "Down Under" on them. This is truly a gem of an art fair! Why? As an Artist this community buys art...as an Artist you are treated very well by the dedicated and fun, fun Peoria Art Guild staff and the many volunteers! You can find me in booth #73 this weekend...look for the girl with a big handmade glass bead necklace on and the biggest smile! My jewelry cases will be well stocked...I have been crazy busy replenishing from another successful St. Louis Art Fair! Hope to see you this weekend in Peoria, IL!

For the rest of 2009 I resolve to update my blog! O.k., that being said...I resolve in 2010 to continually update my blog!!!

Why you ask? Who cares? Well, according to my blog stats lots of folks around the globe regularly read my blog and that's a good thing, I guess!

My blog is the social media outlet that I am the most comfortable with...I have a facebook page (maryvsmith) and tweet to my twitter (maryvsmith) but my blog is where I can post info/location of art fairs in will be in, gallery representation and my glass beadmaking teaching schedule.

2009 was a crazy busy successful year...hence the looong spans between blog updates! Really a good, legit excuse! Every art fair that I participated in...57th Street (Chicago, Il), Des Moines Art Festival (Des Moines, IA), St. Louis Art Fair (St. Louis, MO) and Peoria Fine Art Fair (Peoria, IL)...all were good for me. Good sales...new friends...time to reconnect, share a laugh and a beverage with old friends! Life is good!

Enough said...see you in 2010!

Silver Lined Glass Beads!

I am delighted to introduce to you my handmade glass beads lined with 925 sterling silver...not silver plated and not glued in! These beads are made with Moretti glass and the designs are not painted on! Each bead is made by me...one-at-a-time and kiln annealed for strength and durability. The beads are then hand cored with 925 sterling silver and polished to a mirror finish. These beads will fit most of the European charm bracelets such as Pandora, Biagi, Troll and Chamilia. The hole is approx. 4.5-5mm. If you have not been bitten yet by the European charm craze, well guess what? These beads look great on your chain or leather cord that is in your jewelry box! An Unexpected Gift in Peoria, Illinois!

Wowzie! I was honored to have received an Award of Excellence at the 46th Annual Peoria Fine Art Fair in Peoria, Illinois!!! From the moment we arrived at check-in and all throughout the show Gary and I had the best time...and I am not just saying that because I won an award!!! We had never been to Peoria but had heard good things about the show from other Artists who had done it in the past. The Peoria Art Guild Staff and all of the 400 volunteers treat the Artists really, really well...again, I am not just saying that because I won an award! As an exhibiting Artist you are fed, watered and entertained! The show is truly a community event and the people really come out for the show and BUY ART!!! The show hours are great...10-5 Sat. & Sun. which gives the Artist's time to socialize, relax and party...and Saturday night was a good party! International Juried Jewelry Design Competition at the Bead Museum in Washington, D.C.- September 20, 2008. Passion for Beads Gala was held at the Naval Heritage Memorial Center and I was awarded First Place in the Lampwork and Dichroic Glass category and the Juror's Choice Award!!! I am very, very honored to have received these awards! There were a total of eleven categories...here is the list...Clay, Fiber & Textile, Gemstones, Glass, Lampwork & Dichroic Glass, Metal, Mixed Media, Organic Materials, Seed Beeds, Swarovski Crystal, Ethnic Beads & Trade Beads. The pieces will be on display at the Bead Museum from September 28th thru December 31st! Who needs tats when you can adorn your body with this kind of eye candy!

Laura Gibson of Metals Girl had a contest on her blog titled, "Who do you love?" for her bottlecap repritoire. I am delighted, elated, honored that my Fish Eye beads have been featured in the Spring 2008 issue of Stringing Magazine! Good Show, Crazy Weather!

The 57th Street Art Fair was good for me despite the crazy weather! We shared many laughs with Marybeth Shaw and her husband John! The quality of the Art at the show is first class...in my next life I am going to be a wealthy Art Fair Patron! Many thoughts raced through my head on Sunday afternoon as Gary and I plus a mom and daughter, (who happened to be in our tent as the onslaught hit)...I am thinking as I am standing in water, holding on to a steel tent pole, the winds are howling, the tent walls are billowing, thunder and lightning crackling, sirens wailing...gazing lovinging at all of my glass bead jewelry displayed in my cases, DOES IT GET ANY BETTER THAN THIS??? The show staff was readily available, friendly and helpful! The show patrons are really into the Art and love to chat it up with the Artist's! I hope to be back next year!
